Semi-Pro

I have heard that comedy is greatly dependent on the specific manner of its delivery, and I will be undertaking an experiment to best evaluate this hypothesis. I started watching Ferrell’s last sportsy crazy-arrogant-guy-who-yells-a-lot movie in Widescreen, and never laughed once. I might have even been scowling. So I’ve just returned to the menu, opened the set-up, and arranged the film to be shown in Full Screen, with Mono sound. I’ll let you know how it goes.

  1. Still not funny. So now I’ve jiggled the audio so that the left-side speaker is playing the film’s dialogue track, while the right-side is playing a very rare recording of Truman Capote reading “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. I’ll let you know.

  2. Hmm. Still not funny. I’m just now working a small sharp knitting needle deep into socket of my right eye, pressing in underneath the eye so as not to interrupt the integrity of the viewing experience. I’m pretty sure no theorist of comedy has undertaken this … okay, the pain’s really kicking in, so I have to start watching.

  3. The film is definitely much, much funnier with the needle thing. So, if you want to watch it, that’s your best bet. And in Mono.
