What needs to be done

Is anyone else watching 24 these days? Does it strike you that it plays to a right wing desire to not only feel self-righteous about taking the necessary “harsh” measures but to feel martyred as well (weak people don’t understand; the most noble man is victimized, etc.)? In the last episode it even includes a visit by Jon Voight (whose movies get worse the further right he goes?).

  1. I’m watching it, and, yeah, I’m bothered by the right-wing propaganda on display (as well as the show’s rationalization of said propaganda embedded in the action; it seems to want to have it’s cake and eat it too). Then again, as far as action-tv goes, this season is quite entertaining and has yet to drift into the realm of pure nonsense (as it has in the past). At its best, “24” is high-octane, disposable television. After a long night of rehearsals, I appreciate that.
