You, Me, Dupree and the Dan

Word is that Donald Fagen and Walter Becker have posted on their website an open letter to Luke Wilson, in which they demand a public apology from his brother for stealing the title character from their song “Cousin Dupree.” When I first heard about this, I thought “oh my, aren’t these guys taking themslves a little too seriosuly?” But then I read the letter.

The letter, entitled “What a Shame About Owen”, is very funny, and well worth checking out. In it, they call the film “a summer stinkbomb” and Owen “the Zal Yanovsky of the 21st century.” Ahh, my fondness for Steely Dan waxes as for Owen Wilson it wanes.

I guess there’s a lesson to be learned here.

Don't fuck with the Dan!

  1. I was really getting tired of Owen Wilson, especially after “Wedding Crashers”, so I think Steely Dan’s letter is hilarious and really on-target (admittedly, I had to look up who Zal Yanofsky was)!

*Love* the Yacht Rock clip, although I’m not quite sure I understand why they have Donald Fagen talking like “Meeglebl rooga bebiso meklik!” ???
