Paper Heart

Touching, occasionally funny, but not terribly profound, this is Charlyne Yi’s exploration of love and relationships through interviews, puppets, and the semi-fictional depiction of her relationship with Michael Cera. Quirky, but not in a good way.

  1. Yup. Meh. “Not unlikable” is about all I can muster. I like Yi, but the film could have used some bite, or been a bit crazier, or … There’s a bit where Yi (or the character “Charlyne Yi” in the film) decides they should see love at the LA zoo, so they hang out staring for hours at the lions, and nothing happens. In the film they joke about it. But, alas, the film seems like a lot of meandering, and the joke that it’s meandering doesn’t really offset the difficulties of a film that is mostly meandering.
